Stories about the insidious error 53 did the rounds this week – if you get you iPhone repaired by a non-Apple repairer with non-Apple parts, your phone may be remotely disabled, permanently. Do we own the technology we buy or do we just rent them from the manufacturer? If a manufacturer can change how (or if) your device behaves, then you really don’t own it in any meaningful way.
